BORDER NEEDS MENTAL HEALTH FUNDING

Independent candidate for Farrer Louise Burge said the mental health funding crisis in the Border region is a prime example of why more emphasis needs to be given to health funding in the electorate.

Mrs Burge said mental health, like all health services, needed to be given more serious attention by the Federal Government.

“What is happening on the Border quite simply, should not be,” she said.

“Day after day we read about the need for more services in regional communities.

“We must get representation in Canberra that will fight harder for regional Australia, in particular the Border region,” Mrs Burge said.

She said Farrer desperately needs a stronger voice in policy and funding decision making in Canberra.
“It pains me to read stories like the Border Mail carried on Saturday about our teenagers in crisis and patients at risk,” she said.

“We should not be allowing this to happen.”
Mrs Burge said if elected she would be fighting to get a fairer share of health and infrastructure funding across the Border region.

“We must make a stand. We must say, enough is enough,” Mrs Burge said.
